A nationally traveling event, it’s an exhibit featuring hundreds of incredibly vibrant and intricate life-size LEGO figures, countless activities kids will love, and plenty of educational experiences. Kids can build their own LEGO sculptures and let their creativity flow as they view sculptures that will inspire and amaze them. Tickets ranging from $25 to $50 can be purchased online and additional parking fees may apply upon arrival.
The Pistahan Parade and Festival kicks off with a fascinating but colorful parade at the Civic Center. The parade will end at Yerba Buena Gardens. In addition, the parades often include Filipino art, music, dance, food, and drinks. It is free and open to all ages.

The 1.5-mile march commemorating MLK and Alabama begins at the San Francisco Caltrain station and ends with festivities at the Yerba Buena Gardens and Arts Center downtown. Civil rights lawyers, singers and other artists come together to revive King’s message.
The San Francisco Comedy Festival began as a way to check out local Bay improv tropes and sketches, but has since expanded into a national showcase featuring comedians.
The event is part exhibition, part sale: 100 folk and ethnic art vendors come together to sell a variety of ceramics, baskets, textiles and jewelry.

Lunar New Year kicks off with the Chinese New Year Parade, the city’s best procession that doesn’t involve public nudity (instead, there are acrobatic dragons and stilt walkers). It is also the occasion for the popular annual scavenger hunt, in which some 1,600 people wander through Chinatown. But the Lunar New Year is not limited to the Chinese: the Vietnamese New Year celebration, the same weekend as the UN. The first SF Indiefest screened 85 films over 14 days and led organizer Jeff Ross to create three more festivals: another horror genre Hole in the Head, Docfest in the fall, and a winter music festival. IndieFest now runs concurrently with the Winter Music Festival, and with more music-themed movies added to the schedule, there’s always an enthusiastic crowd for the screenings.

At one point, the Irish made up a third of the city’s population. Although not now, everyone’s Irish eyes smile at this parade of green. The procession, which leaves at 11:30 a.m. m., is led by kilt-clad bagpipers and followed by floats, marching bands, unions and Irish dance groups. Then walk two blocks to Soma Street Food Park for a food truck party featuring Guinness-infused dishes.
Every April 1, this procession of costumed fools makes its way through the financial district, stopping at various “fool stations” (also known as prominent financial institutions) to perform traditional acts like tossing failed lottery tickets to the Federal Reserve. Bring the odd socks for a communal closing “sock swap” on the steps of the Pacific Stock Exchange.
A joyous whirlwind engulfs normally quiet Japantown for two weekends in April. The Cherry Blossom Festival is a spectacular celebration of the arrival of spring with sushi and teriyaki, rice paper crafts and drum performances to ward off evil spirits. On the second Sunday of the festival, the Grand Parade begins at the Civic Center and travels from Polk to Post, ending at Japantown’s Peace Plaza.

Celebrate the planet with indigenous dances, homemade energy repairs, organic cooking demonstrations and more at this day-long “Eco-Carnival” near City Hall. Those with extra green money will want to check out the eco-friendly fashions and crafts on display.
The morning begins innocently enough with a family Easter celebration, but the irreverence kicks in after the kids head home for the afternoon. Hosted since the mid-’90s by the San Francisco drag troupe that dresses up as a nun, the latest event is the spiky and bloody Hunky Jesus Contest. Fear not, ladies: In 2014, the group also started a Foxy Mary contest. Those looking for a more traditional Easter celebration, including a non-outrageous Easter Hat Contest, should head to the Union Street Easter Festival.
Launched in 1957, the San Francisco Film Society’s annual premiere showcase is the oldest film festival in North America. The two-week festival features more than 150 films and events (with more than 100 filmmakers in attendance) and attracts some 70,000 viewers each year. The festival truly lives up to its “international” title: in 2014, it screened films from 56 countries in 40 languages.
