April 2023 Current Events – You’d be hard-pressed to find another artist with as great a projection as Marlena Moore. From the early days of single bedroom recording through the maximalist sonic exploration of his latest album, Pay Attention, to the laser-focused sound of his latest work, charting a path through his career to date is as tangible as it gets.
Originally from Edmonton, Alberta, and now based in Montreal, Moore has become one of Canada’s leading writers and performers, rightly recognized for her commanding yet masterful artistry, and an emotionally direct and warmly engaging – even disarming – stage presence. Time – a brand of songwriting. For Wisdom, the soundtrack praised her “powerful vocal range and strong lyrics…her music does more than magic.” She has shared stages with acts such as Angel Olsen, US Girls and Jennifer Castle, and Exclaim! In 2020, Moore was listed as an “Artist to Watch”.

After gaining traction in the late ’10s with her acclaimed album Gaze, Marlena Moore joined forces with sub pop recording artist and beloved indie iconoclast Chad Van Galen and drummer/producer Chris Dodge to record her next album, Pay Attention, Be Amazed.
Blenders Presents Tennyson King, The Lyric Theatre, Swift Current, April 28 2023
If there’s a theme to Moore’s latest set of songs, it has to be the idea of openness: in life, in music, and in one’s approach to seeing the world around them. In fact, one of the tracks on her new album, titled ‘I Love Everything’, opens with the line “You can do anything, you can go anywhere”. However, these alleged positive endorsements were not discovered; He struggles with the polarized perception that “everything and everything is impossible”, he admits that “the record was written at a time when I was the saddest and happiest in my life”. Where these dichotomies might lead to stagnation, or – worse – abandonment altogether, Moore more than rises to the occasion to create another distinct and catchy set of pop/rock gems.
Marlena Moore is an enigmatic artist with an incredible presence and soaring voice. His songs traverse personal bedroom confessions with grunge-influenced guitar tones in a tight pop song package.
